Hallmark Augmented Reality Cards in time for Valentine’s Day

If you read my post about Home Depot’s Augmented Reality Gift Cards in time for the holidays then it should come as no surprise that Hallmark has launched its own Augmented Reality campaign in time for Valentine’s Day. The AR Valentine’s work exactly as one would expect: Open the card, visit the site, and experience an augmented reality version of the card you received. Why spend money embedding sound-bytes or pop-up elements into a card when you can go digital with more immersive results?

Experience Pandora, Avatar and McDonald’s Feature Augmented Reality

McDonald’s has continued the stream of augmented reality marketing projects centered around James Cameron’s Avatar with “Experience Pandora,” a website devoted to the movie. After watching the intro movie and muting the lovely jungle sound effects, users can play three unique augmented reality games set in different environments from the movie, with bonus features upon completion of all content.

Goo Goo for Google Goggles, Visual Search

Earlier this month Google labs announced Google Goggles, a visual search application for Android phones. The app uses pictures instead of words to search the web for relevant results. Using your camera phone, you can snap a picture of anything and let Google analyze what it is you’re interested in. From landmarks, books, business cards, artwork, wine and logos to location-based business searches within your periphery, Google Goggles is one part mobile-scanner, one part augmented reality app.
