Cool New Marketing Technologies: Caught and Served

Google Sidewiki

While everyone has been talking about the new beta invites to Google Wave, the company quietly released a new product that could have a huge impact on the landscape of the web if it catches on. It’s called Google Sidewiki. Check out the video:

If you are paying attention this product should either scare the hell out of you or make you very excited depending on your comfort level with open communication and social media. We have been saying for a long time that social media can’t be ignored and this is a sharp wake up call to anyone that didn’t get it. It’s happening if you like it or not and now it’s happening on your back porch.

Think about it… anyone can comment on your site. While it’s true that these comments aren’t published directly on your site, they are seen in context. Social media has never been so closely aligned with your content or your brand. Google Sidewiki decentralizes web authors’ authority and puts readers and authors on a level playing field.

This product is still very new and who can say if it will have legs. But I think this is a good indication of things to come. The lines are being blurred.

Wave has been trending on twitter all day. Google would have a hard time getting anyone to notice anything but that over the next few days.

This is an amazing idea that stands to root out false/inaccurate information across the web, especially on the pages most visited which have a greater impact. Can’t wait!

check out the sidewiki on awidernet’s homepage for a secret!

  4. I have to add the Google Toolbar to use it? In my best Dana Carvey as George Bush voice, “not gonna do it.”
