5 Tips for Speaking at a Virtual Event

As virtual events gain in popularity, there’s a good chance that you (yes you!) will be asked to speak at one. The prospect of speaking to an audience that isn’t’ staring you in the face is somewhat daunting, so here are a few tips that will help you out:
- Keep it short. 20 Minutes is all that you should be shooting for and sometimes that can be too much. Make sure you’re only saying what you need to say and serve up something more in depth via a downloadable document or a link over to your blog (you have one of those, right?). Read This Post
Can User-Centered Design and Agile Get Along?
Lately there has been a spate of articles cropping up about the fate of user-centered design (UCD) in today’s fast paced, iterative development landscape. Some people think traditional UCD methods such as testing, card sorts and user experience documentation (wireframes and site maps) is antiquated and unnecessary when developers can design something workable then engineer out glitches with regular releases. With the advent of rapid development (Agile), the growth of web application frameworks like Ruby on Rails, and the availability of ready-made widgets, “design” is now easy to do.
