Times Reader Launches Using WPF

The New York Times has a brand new reading application based on WPF, or Windows Presentation Foundation, formerly called Avalon. This technology will be a component of Windows Vista, and promises to bring some interesting new capabilities for windows application designers. I believe the iBloks application, a video, image, and music sharing tool, is also built on WPF. This is a good glimpse of the types of slick applications coming down the road for windows users, many of which will certainly change the way we communicate electronically. Hmmm… I’m not sure I see the point of this.

I went to download the trial and realized that I need to first install the .NET 3.0 Framework. Not sure how stable or secure this is; anyone else install it yet?

I have installed it and it does appear to be stable. As a method of delivering documents/pubs to consumers in a format that is pleasant to read, I’ve really enjoyed Zinio, but now I’m wishing this was the incumbent leader.
